Selecting a processor can be difficult.

What you need today may be not what you need tomorrow.

Newer programs, games and applications come out every day that require larger processors with more power to make them work properly.

It is hard to see what will come out next year, or the year after or even three years down the track, so don’t sell yourself short.

Generally the larger the processor that you select the longer the computer will last.

The "K" Processor allows you to over clock the speed of the CPU, basically rev it harder to get better performance.

NB. It is very easy to upgrade other components of a computer like Ram, Hard Disk and Video Card but not so easy to upgrade the CPU.

CPU Analogy Use Best for
Atom 1 Cylinder Basic computing Tablets | Mobile Phones
Celeron 2 Cylinder Basic Computing Inexpensive everyday computing
Pentium 4 Cylinder Basic, Word, doucments, assignments, basic internet. Best for basic user, student, someone learning with lots of patience, struggles to do more than one thing at a time.
i3 4 Cylinder+ First business class model, internet, email, accounting, word, excel.

Able to handle lots of programs at the same time.

i5 6 Cylinder Similar to i3 but will be more future proof Use: Drawing programs, large spread sheets, home video editing. Handles 4k video mush better than an i3.
i7 V8 Most powerful and is the most future proof. Best for video and sound editing, design work, 3D modelling

  4GB 64-bit DDR4-2400 CL15 SDRAM (default)

  8GB 64-bit DDR4-2400 CL15 SDRAM+$59

  16GB 64-bit DDR4-2400 CL15 SDRAM +$139

Ram is your workspace, similar to a desk in your office, if you have a small desk you have no space to shuffle things around and this is ineffcient. Having more ram or a larger desk makes you much more efficient and therefor faster at doing work.

  Optional Solid State HDD.. (default)

  120Gb SSD (Solid State Drive), R/W 450Mb/s +$99

  240Gb SSD (Solid State Drive), R/W 500Mb/s+$149

  480Gb SSD (Solid State Drive), R/W 500Mb/s+$249

  960Gb SSD (Solid State Drive), R/W 530Mb/s+$369

  2Tb SSD (Solid State Drive), R/W 540Mb/s+$899

  250Gb M.2 (Solid State Drive), R/W 3200/1500Mb/s+$219

  500Gb M.2 (Solid State Drive), R/W 3500/2100Mb/s+$499

Imagine loading into Windows in around 20 seconds! A solid state hard allows you to achieve this. The limit of course is the size, if this is an issue simply add a secondary drive. A standard Hard Disk works fine for storage

Solid state hard disk drives (SSD's) can make everything happen at about 5x faster , this has been the biggest advance in speed since, well, anything!

SSD's are not only 5x faster but they use less power, make no noise, are extremely reliable and last significantly longer.

  • Rule No1, the faster information moves from the hard disk into the ram the faster your computer is.
  • A standard Hard Disk usually transfers information at 100MBps and a SSD can be about 540MBps so your computer with an SSD is greater than 5x faster.
  • Regular SSD hard drives are limited 600MBps which is the speed limit of the sata controllers on a motherboard.
  • The new M.2 (m dot 2) drives use the motherboard bus which allows data to move at 2GBps which is nearly 4x faster than the top SSD.
  • This new type of connection is called NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) developed by Intel, Samsung, Sandisk, Dell, and Seagate.
  • Read more about NVMe here..

  1Tb Desktop SATA HDD (default)

  2Tb Desktop SATA HDD +$49

  3Tb Desktop SATA HDD +$99

  4Tb Desktop SATA HDD +$139

a second drive, this is usually a standard hard disk Drive (HDD), this allows you to have a high speed SSD for your main drive.

The operating system (Windows), programs and games generally are stored on the primary drive (usually an SSD) and the secondary drive is reserved for large amounts of data like movies, redundant games, music pictures and more. This setup dramatically improves the overall performance of your computer.

For compatibility and reliability Computer Town recommends Nvidia GPU's

  Intel® HD Graphics 610 (default)

Initially, you may think that purchasing a second monitor for your employee’s work space is a colossal waste of money. What can you accomplish with a second monitor that you can’t with only one?

While you can accomplish most tasks with only one monitor, two monitors allow you to accomplish the same tasks in a fraction of the time.

In fact, dual monitors have been proven to increase productivity by 20-30 percent, according to The New York Times’s report of a Jon Peddie Research survey.

All the graphics cards available with the Maxi G6 are capable of running up to 3 monitors and the higher end cards can run 4 monitors.

A second monitor helps to increase productivity by decreasing the time it takes to complete certain tasks. These tasks can consist of a variety processes such as.

  • Data entry
  • Drafting an email using source material
  • Comparing products side-by-side
  • Spreading large spreadsheets across two monitors to view a report in its entirety
  • Leaving a chat box open while you work.

Ethernet Over Power Adaptor ** Best for gaming** +$89

Wireless is not the optimal for gaming because it increases latency = the time it takes your mouse click to reach the game server, this is bad for online gaming.

Ethernet (lan) over power eliminates this delay for better gaming.

The Ethernet Over Power Adaptor creates a Lan connection over your power lines. (= no latency)

A device plugs into your modem then into the power point, a second device is than plugged into the power point in the room that you need internet. You then plug an ethernet cable into the adaptor and you are connected to your modem.

* Computer Town Australia does not recommend Norton 360

With over 22 years of computer servicing you get to know what works and what doesn't.

We have found that Norton Antivirus and Security (not 360) are the most effective and least intrusive antivirus product.

The product does not bog the system down and give you useless popup reminders like other products and most of all it works with a rating of over 94% effectiveness.

All warranty is return to base

Warranties are a part of life, as much as we select the best possible brand or product based on our 22 year experience things can still go wrong but we have you covered.

We cover all physical parts of the computer and we do this with new exchange items in most cases while you wait, unlike other companies who generally return the faulty product to the supplier which can take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks = long time, no gaming.

For our distance customers we pay the return freight.

A modern computer is generally very reliable but things can go wrong, backing your information up is the single most important thing that is a must for modern day computing.

How would you be if you lost a years worth of work, your personal photos or everything. We have seen hard disk drives fail and virusus destroy the entire contents of a computer.

Data recovery starts at around $800 for a broken hard disk and there are virusus out there that will destroy all content on your computer......*** you have been WARNED ***
